fmx impressions

hi folks,
yes I’m still alive, I know my website needs to be updated more regularly and I should post more news here.
But, honestly I have such a lot to do at the moment that I just don’t find the time to do so, I’m really sorry for that and hope to find some more time in the near future. However got some nice photos from the fmx where I signed books together with Miao He and Steven Stahlberg for Ballistic Publishing at the 3d Powerstore.

Iknow, I know, it’s been a while since than, but I thought it would be nice to post some shots from the book signing better late than never :-). We really had a lot of fun there, and to meet Steven Stahlberg was especially great, not only he is an awesome artist he is an incredibly nice guy as well.

So here are some shots taken from the book signing:

A new tutorial is up

Winged Vamp Tutorial
Or how to achieve a more or less natural media oil/acrylic painting look with digital media by Uwe Jarling.

This tutorial shows how I work to achieve a more traditional media look with my digital paintings. The tutorial shows how I work using Painter and Photoshop to achieve this goal. I’m not sure if it will work using Photoshop alone as Photoshop does not offer the brushes and possibilities like Painter does, what does not necessarily mean you can’t achieve such results using Photoshop alone, it does only mean I am not able to achieve it using Photoshop alone :-). To make a long sentence short, this tutorial shows the way I work with Painter, I only use Photoshop for color corrections and sharpening. Sharpening will be most important at the end as it actually gives the picture the “right feel”, but more later. Now let’s start.

Sorry for the lack of updates on my site…crying

I’m really sorry for the lack of updates happening to my site. But I’m just to busy at the moment to update my site regularly, I have a lot of art laying around waiting to get uploaded on my gallery. I will add a new section to my gallery called “Portraits” as I did some portrait commissions lately and there sure will be more.
Also my so called Portfolio section urgently needs an update, I mean I promised the portfolio section to be the section including my “state of the art” work – lol. Now it seems the portfolio section turned into something like – here you can see what this guy did years ago, haha. So an update here is really needed.

The Award section is another thing I should update, I got featured in so many books and magazines last year that I really should place those things in the Award section and call the part “Features” or something like that. And as I want to post everything on this site concerning my art I also want to place several online awards and things like that.

The FAQ section needs to be urgently updated as well, as I get so many e-mails asking for permission to use my art for this and that and I always have to answer the same things, so a FAQ would really help saving my limited time.

And this and that needs to be updated as well, BUT as I’m not really the ultimate web programmer king thins need time, and time is what I don’t have at the moment. So please be patient, I WILL update all the things on my site, but it will take some time.

However, I thank you all, interested in my work, so much for your steady support, your nice e-mails and comments in my other online galleries – Thanks!

Cheers

Featured in “The Art Of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos”

The Art Of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos

Some of my paintings I did for the Fantasy Flight Games CCG “A Call Of Cthulhu” are featured in this wonderful book. One piece I did exclusively for the book as a two page illustration, well most my paintings appearing in the book are two page or at least one full page sized. So if you want to see some of my stuff printed "big size" and not only the size of those tiny cards, go and get yourself the book, you won’t be disappointed as the art in this wonderful collection is really amazing!

Here’s what the publishers says about the book:
The Art of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos is a journey into the dark and haunting images inspired by the books and stories of the Cthulhu Mythos. H.P. Lovecraft's stories have fueled the imaginations of hundreds of authors and countless readers, with their suggestions of ancient and terrible beings beside which humankind is insignificant, and the horrible truths that our minds are not meant to know. Now, for the first time, the art inspired by these classic tales of horror is collected in one lavish volume, featuring paintings and drawings by some of today's most talented artists, including Michael Komarck, Torstein Nordstrand, Paul Carrick, Anders Finer, and dozens of others.

So if you are somehow interested in H.P. Lovecraft, go get your copy, it’s really worth it.

Atathoth Tutorial in Martin McKenna’s Digital Horror Painting Workshop

A pretty detailed digital painting tutorial of my Azathoth piece appears in Martin McKenna’s Digital Horror Painting Workshop. Thanks to Fantasy Flight Games (owners of the copyright of most of the pieces appearing in the book) allowing me to give some pieces to Martin for inclusion in the book.
What really makes me happy about the inclusion in the book is having my work published together with the work of some of my best artist friends, such like Matthew Bradburry, Simon Dominic and not to forget Martin McKenna and many more.

And here’s what the publisher has to say about the book:
Horror imagery has appeared in many and varied forms throughout its long tradition, from the whimsical American Gothic of Charles Addams to the erotic, biomechanical nightmares of HR Giger. Now, with the latest digital applications, artists are able to realize nightmare visions that are more realistic and more terrifying than ever.

Digital Horror Painting Workshop demonstrates how to use these latest digital techniques to create artwork in a wide variety of horror styles. It employs detailed step-by-step tutorials, analysis of spectacular finished paintings, fascinating work-in-progress drawings and sketchbook pages from leading artists working at the forefront of illustration, comic book art, and computer game and movie production design. Each section offers a guide to the creative process, from inspiration and initial sketches to fully rendered horror scenes.

Digital Horror Painting Workshop is a must-have for anyone wanting to create evocative horror paintings – or for anyone who delights in the frisson of fear evoked by supernatural imagery at its very best.

So all you have to do now is go and get your own copy of this amazing book :-).
